It’s official – Christmas is upon us! I’m not quite sure how it’s that time of year already but sure enough the mince pies and advent calendars have started trickling in and it’s only a matter of time before the radio starts playing back to back Christmas songs!
But as we approach Christmas and the colder, winter months we are also acutely aware that this can be a very difficult time for many people in our community. The Universal Credit uplift and furlough scheme have come to an end and people are struggling to not only eat but heat their homes. So this year we will be running our Christmas Gift Voucher campaign to bring a bit of brightness to people who are struggling to make ends meet this festive season.
Last year we were overwhelmed by the generosity of the people of Brent who enabled us to give everyone who came to the food bank to collect their emergency food parcel in the week before Christmas a store gift voucher to use just as they wish. Whether that’s to buy something they really need or to buy their child a present. And we were also overwhelmed by people’s response to this unexpected treat – a gift from the people in their community.
