Help Us Break the Poverty Hunger Cycle in Brent

9th June 2025

The latest research from Trussell has just been released — and the findings are deeply concerning.
Between April 2024 and March 2025, a staggering 2.9 million emergency food parcels were distributed across the UK to people trapped in the cycle of poverty and hunger. Of these, 1.8 million were for families with children. That’s a 46% increase in just five years.
Here in Brent, the crisis is just as real. Over the past year alone, Brent Foodbank provided 12,063 emergency food parcels, with 7,754 of those going to families with children. This marks a rise of 1,500 parcels compared to the previous year — and it’s only our second year as an independent charity.
Every week, hundreds of people in Brent go hungry simply because they cannot afford the essentials. For many, turning to a food bank is their only option.
Behind each food parcel is a personal story — but time and again, the root cause is the same: the social security system is failing to meet the basic needs of the people it’s meant to support, especially the most vulnerable and disadvantaged.
We believe there is a clear solution: The Government must strengthen the social support system and urgently reconsider proposed cuts to disability payments. But we can’t do this alone. We need your support to help break the cycle of poverty and hunger in Brent.
You can find out more information about how to get involved on this website – whether by donating, volunteering, fundraising, or simply spreading the word. Together, we can work towards a future where no one in Brent needs a food bank because everyone has access to the food and support they need.
