Winter Appeal
Brent Foodbank is very excited to announce the launch of this year’s Winter Appeal!
Your generosity has always been at the heart of Brent Foodbank, and it is because of you that we are able to keep working to ensure that people in crisis have access to food and support. So this year, we would like to introduce you to Makena who can explain the impact of your donation far better than we can….
“You and I haven’t met, but in a way, I already know you. I know that you care about Brent Foodbank and that means everything to me, because Brent Foodbank has done so much for me.
My name is Makena and I live in St Raphael’s Estate with my mum, dad and brother.
Your support means the world to me and families like mine because by supporting Brent Foodbank you keep hope alive for many people living in Brent and give them somewhere to turn.
My story is simple and far from unique. I first walked through the doors of Brent Foodbank when I was twelve, with my mum and brother, to collect a food parcel. I’ll never forget the look on mum’s face, a mix of fear and shame.
It was a hard time for us. My dad wasn’t well and couldn’t work, and mum was trying to keep us all afloat with two cleaning jobs. But it still wasn’t enough.
I expected the food bank to be a cold, quiet place where people lined up in silence. Instead, when we walked in, we were greeted with warm smiles, the sound of laughter, and a slice of cake. We felt welcome, safe and part of a community that cared.
The food we took home was a lifeline, but Brent Foodbank gave us so much more than that. They gave us dignity and hope.
They talked to dad about applying for a Personal Independence Plan and put us in touch with a housing charity who got our landlord to make critical repairs to our damp, crumbling home. Thanks to the food bank, we had a safe, dry house where we could finally breathe easy again.
This holiday season, many families will rely on Brent Foodbank for food, support and a sense of hope. But none of this happens without people like you. People who care. People who act.
So, as we approach this season of giving, please donate to help Brent Foodbank continue their life-changing work.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for caring. For giving. And for helping families like mine.”
P.S. Brent Foodbank doesn’t receive any government or council funding. They have some corporate support but are reliant on the generous support of our local community to run their services.
